I'm joined by U of Maine 3L Emily Burns to discuss with Prof. Nofil her brilliant new history of immigration detention in the U.S. jails, which has never been "civil."
Thank you so much, Andrew, for introducing us to Prof Nofil and this incredibly important work. Thank you, Brianna, for writing it. As Jenn states, if only we were taught our own history in school, we might be a people better insulated from repeating our worst mistakes. But here we are with an administration about to triple -- or quadruple if an arrangement with Bukele is realized -- the capacity of "the migrant's jail" machinery. Brianna, I wish your book had been available when I was researching Crossing the Line (June 2024). In the meantime, I've linked to your interview on my Substack podcast this week. I hope you'll give it a listen and subscribe. So grateful to be connected to you both! https://open.substack.com/pub/sarahtowle/p/immigration-detention-at-guantanamo?r=464pd&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true
