HBO Max released Critical Incident - an important documentary about the death of Anastacio Hernandez Rojas, the journey for justice his wife, Maria led, and the help they got along the way. In addition to investigative journalist John Carlos Frey, Andrea Guerrero with Southern Border Communities Coalition, and international human rights lawyer and Berkeley Law professor Roxanna Altholtz, who helped Maria and her family win a case against the United States at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, the filmmakers document the contributions of former Border Patrol Agent and current Awesome Human Jenn Budd. Jenn is the author of Against the Wall and the host Borderland Talk.
I spoke with Jenn about the film, the lessons we can learn from her work taking down CBP’s Critical Incident Teams, the journey for justice, and our current moment.
I truly hope folks will find ways to view the film, review the film positively (to combat chud-driven hate on IMBD and other sites), and share it with others.
